Perak Cave Temple is one of the oldest and most beautifully preserved temple in Ipoh. Within the hug limestone caves of Gunung Tasik, this temple was built in 1962 by Buddhists priests, Chong Sen Yee and his wife Choong Chan Yoke who came from China. Perak Cave took 50 years of diligent and careful work in and around the cave temple.

The temple houses over 40 Buddha statues with the centrepiece being a 12.8-metre high sitting Buddha. The cave sits at the foot of a 120m high limestone outcrop at one of several hills in the area. Behind the cave, there is a simple but pretty garden, which is decorated with lotus ponds, pavilions, pagodas and two bell towers.

After entering into temple, the limestone cave opens up into a giant space with hidden grotto. We saw a golden sitting Buddha statue, 40 feet tall, dominates the temple.

The time for exercise. Behind the main altar, we have to climb a flight of steps to reach the top of the cave. After a steep climb of 385 steps, the cave opens again to reveal a breathtaking view of Ipoh and Perak Cave itself.

After taking a bit of rest at the highest point, we went down the steep stairs with our jelly legs. It feels crazy to do this kind of climbing in a hot weather. We leave here around 4pm, it was really a unforgettable memory to us that we were able to visit one of Ipoh’s unique and fascinating cave temples.
